Peter A. Potter, 75, of Cortland, died September 9, 2014 at Hospicare of Ithaca. He was born December 27, 1938 in Cortland the son of the late Robert and Helen Johnson Potter. Pete was a lifelong resident of the area. He succeeded his father as President of Potter Paint Co. until his retirement. Over the years he enjoyed spending winters in Florida. Pete had attended the Presbyterian Churches in Cortland and Venice, Florida. In his youth he was an avid swimmer and scuba diver spending summers on Skaneateles Lake. Pete had served on various boards for civic organizations including the Brewster House and Cortland Savings Bank. He was also an active fifty year member of the Cortland Country Club where he loved to golf and play cards with his friends. He is survived by his wife Sue Potter, his son Rod (Renee) Potter and their children Philip, Andrew, and Paige, his son Jason Potter, Sue's children and grandchildren, his sister Betsy (Alan) McQuiston, nieces, nephews, and his best friend "Noah". In addition to his parents Pete was predeceased by his first wife Bernadine Potter, his brother Robert Potter, and his sister Eugenia Calkins. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Pete's life Sunday 2-4pm at the Cortland Country Club.
