Shirley A. Adams, 81, of Cortlandville passed away Wednesday at Cortland Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Adams was born July 15, 1935 in Canandaigua, NY, the daughter of the late Maurice L. and Isabel Standish Brand.
Mrs. Adams was a 1953 graduate of Naples Central School and a 1957 graduate of Alfred University. She began her career in teaching at Wayland High School in Wayland, NY. In 1959 she was hired by the Homer High School to teach History, she remained there until her retirement in 1990. Mrs. Adams was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Cortland, the NYS Teacher’s Retirement System and the Cortland Country Club.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband of 57 years Peter P. Adams, one brother James (Gloria) Brand of Geneseo, NY and a niece Julie, and a great niece and great nephew.
A memorial service will be 11 AM Thursday Feb. 16 at the United Presbyterian Church in Cortland with Rev. David Johnson officiating. A reception with follow at the church. Friends are invited to call 4-6 PM Wednesday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. Interment will take place in Glenwood Cemetery in the spring.
