Richard E. "Dick" Tarbell, 88, of Cortland, passed away on April 25, 2017 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. Dick was born on October 23, 1928 .Dick spent his childhood growing up on the family farm; the youngest son of the late Carroll Tarbell and Clara Saxton-Tarbell. On June 2, 1951 he married his wife of 60 years, Marjorie "Midge" Fish. Dick worked throughout his life on the family farm as well as, Thompson Boat, Chris Craft Boat, John Deere, and Cortland Ford New Holland until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for most of his life, and would sing in the choir and play the bells for holiday services. He was a member of the International Management Council for many years. Dick was an avid bowler at Recreation Alleys and Hi-Lanes during the 1960's and 70's in addition to playing Racquet Ball, Tennis and Golf. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie. He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Sheila) Tarbell, James Tarbell, and a daughter Jerilyn "Jill" Tarbell, all of Cortland. Grandchildren Jason and Celeste Tarbell of Garner N.C., and Pamela and Tom Cullip, as well as 7 greatgrandchildren. Services will be held, on Saturday April 29 at 3pm, at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Lincoln Avenue, Cortland NY 13045. Friends are welcome to call from 2pm until the start of the service. Burial will follow in The McGraw Cemetery, McGraw, NY. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to please consider, Meals on Wheels.
