Obituary of Mary E. Mahar

Mary E. Mahar, 91 of Cortland passed away on May 27, 2017 at Cortland Regional Medical Center Nursing Facility. She was born on May 30, 1925 a daughter of the late Percy and Ada VanMarter Rounds.

 

Mary attended schools locally, and also attended Central City Business Institute. She was a Secretary at Manpower, and was previously a Secretary at Virgil Central School. Mary was a member of the Virgil Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, member of Cortland County Auxiliary, previous member of the Red Hat Society. She was also the previous Virgil Town Clerk.

 

Mary is survived by one son, Michael (Laura) Mahar, two daughters, Cheryl L. Roonan, Connie (John) Cutler, two sisters, Barb (Douglas) Park, Helen Miller, seven grandchildren, Heather (Sonny) Gill, Derek Cutler, Brenda (Dave) Minney, Linette Roonan, Philip Beiter, Shannon Mahar and Ryan Mahar, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents she was predeceased, by a husband, Lawrence Mahar, brother, Leon Rounds, and a son in law, Thomas Roonan

 

Calling hours will be held, Friday, June 2 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland with a memorial service to begin at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Virgil Rural Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Virgil Fire Department, 1195 W State Rd, Cortland, NY 13045.
