Janice Arlene (Horton) Hatfield, 77, resident of Cortland, New York went to be with the lord on June 2, 2017 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Janice was born in Berkshire, New York on May 7, 1940 to Millard Horton and Edna (Underwood) Horton McNeil. She graduated from Newark Valley High School in 1958, got married in 1960, had children and in 1968 began her career with Cooperative Extension at Cornell University where she worked until retiring in 1998 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Freeville United Methodist Church, loved animals, camping, collectables, traveling, spending time with her family, laughter of her great grandchildren, word search puzzles, and trying new recipes. Janice is survived by her children, Laura Hathaway (Larry) and Steven Hatfield; grandchildren, Kelly Tobin (Brian); Heather Cornell (Harold Rorick); Kimberly Rivers (Ryan) and Joshua Hathaway (Alyssa Morgan); Great-Grandchildren, Addison, Bryce, Peyson and Brianna; 35 year companion, Douglas Brown; sisters, Doris Wells and Dawn Brown; half-siblings Lloyd Latier (Barb), Ronald Latier (Bev), Linda Young (Jim); and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Janice is predeceased by an unborn child, Jane Elizabeth; brother, Richard Horton; sister, Joyce Hill; half-sister Arlene Cortright; parents, Millard and Edna Horton, Roland Latier. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 11th at the Dryden VFW from 1:00-4:00. Please bring your memories to share. You may offer condolences at www.wright-beard.com.
