Obituary of Elizabeth (Betty) G. Beard

Elizabeth "Betty" G. Beard 91, passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday June 25th, 2017 in her home in East Homer. Betty was born December 17th, 1925 in Cortland, NY. She was the younger of two daughters raised by the late Hiram and Grace Fisher. She was a member of the East Homer United Methodist Church as well as a member of the PTA and the New York State Draft Horse Club. Before her husband John's passing, Betty was very active accompanying him to various shows and shared his passion for horses. After his untimely death, Betty took over operation of the family farm and remained matriarch until her passing. The family asks that she be remembered for her dedication to kin, friends, the farm, and ability to make room at the dinner table for one or ten more at a moment's notice. Betty is survived by her three sons, Terry, Jody (Carol), and Geoffrey (JoAnne), as well as three grandchildren, Kristin, Katie, and Chelsie, cousin Donna and family, and two nephews, Robert and Edward. Her husband, John, who died in July 1984, predeceased her. Her sister Marjorie, brother in law Michael Giamichael, and niece Janice also predecease Betty. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday July 1st at the East Homer United Methodist Church, Route 13, East Homer. Friends of the family are welcome to call from 9-10 am before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice Care of Cortland, 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, or the SPCA, 879 McLean Rd, Cortland.
