Marjorie B. Ferris, 99 of Groton, formerly of McGraw, passed away on July 11, 2017 at the Groton Community Health Care Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 5, 1918, the daughter of the late Clarence and Edna M. Jones Brown in Freetown, NY. Marjorie attended McGraw Central School and graduated in 1935. She worked in food services at McGraw Central School for several years, then with SUNY Cortland until her retirement. Marjorie was a previous member of McGraw Presbyterian Church. In her earlier years, she enjoyed preparing and cooking meals, including Syrian food, spending time with her family on East Academy Street and on the hill on Greenwood Road. She loved to travel, especially to mountains and beaches in New Hampshire, Maine and Virginia. She will be remembered for her beautiful, warm smile, affection for baseball, love for bright colorful flowers and devotion to all of her family. Marjorie is survived by one son, James Ferris of Homer, one daughter, Jane (Greg) Eades of Groton, six grandchildren, James (Terry) Ferris, Jr., JoAnn (Todd) Wilcox, Peter (Babette) Carr, Jeffery (Jaclyn) Carr, Robyn (Steve) Day, Nicole (Michael) DeMarco, fifteen great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Marjorie is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Aden P. Ferris, a son Wayne Ferris, a brother, Walter Brown and a sister, Lucille McKinney. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Church of Blodgett Mills, 2262 Blodgett Mills West Rd., Blodgett Mills, NY. Interment will follow the service at the McGraw Rural Cemetery. A luncheon will immediately follow the interment.
