Obituary of Doris Shlanta

Doris Shlanta, 92, of Horseheads NY, passed away on September 12, 2017 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Doris was born on May 15, 1925 to her parents, the late Howard Reed and Daisy VanScoy. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Willseyville, NY, where she attended school in a one-room school house. Later on Doris pursued an education in business, graduating from Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, PA. After graduating, Doris left country life to pursue her dreams in New York City, where she provided administrative support for an advertising agency and appeared as a model in a number of print advertisements. After her children were born, Doris had a second career as an executive assistant for The Reader's Digest in Pleasantville, New York. Doris loved to garden, and was an avid New York Times Crossword Puzzle solver. She enjoyed golf and was a member of the Cortland Country Club. Doris also loved and cared for animals. She was extremely dedicated to and proud of, her children and grandson. She is survived by her son, Paul Shlanta; daughter-in-law, Mary Long; and grandson Benjamin Shlanta, all of Atlanta, Georgia, and by her daughter, Patti Shlanta, of Montour Falls, NY. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband John Shlanta in 1990 and her brothers, Paul, Robert, and Arden Reed. A graveside service will be held on Saturday September 16th at 2pm, at the Glenwood Cemetery in Homer, NY.
