DANIEL J. HUGHES age 70, Survived by his wife of more than thirty years, Carolee, daughters Theresa (Randall) Brightwell, Joann (Mike) Doran, grandchildren RaeAnne, Brandon, Dillyn, Wyatt, Alexander, Lindsey, and Makenzie. Also survived by his mother, Marie N. Hughes, siblings Mike (Theresa), Jim (Barb), Annette (Chuck), Karen, Jack, Tim (Terri), Marty (Mary), Bill (Joan), Tom (Fawn), and lifelong friend Paul Brown. Predeceased by his father Martin, and sister-in-law Mary Hughes. After serving in the US Army, and a period of time as a steelworker, Dan became a computer programmer for several area businesses. Dan loved his wife, children, grandchildren and foster children. He enjoyed taking them places and attending their activities and sports. He was very proud of all their accomplishments. An avid sports fan, Dan was deeply involved with the teams of his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed wrestling, particularly the Cortland High School wrestling team. He also liked to attend SUNY Cortland and Cornell football games. Calling hours will be Saturday, March 17, 1-3pm, with a short service to follow at 3pm, at Wright Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland NY 13045. Internment at Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to the Cortland High School wrestling program, or the Sullivan County School District wrestling program, Laporte, Pennsylvania.
