Obituary of Alexis Rebecca Porter

Please share a memory of Alexis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On May 22, 2015, our angel baby, Alexis Rebecca Porter, was embraced by the arms of the lord. Born in Cortland, NY on July 23, 1997, she blessed us with her beautiful soul. Lexi was a light in the lives of so many but to her mother, Julie Williams Porter, to her father Joseph Porter, and to her brother, Christopher Hendriks, she was everything. On her maternal side Lexi is survived her grandparents, James and Linda Williams, who to Lexi were her Poppy and her Gram. They were so proud of her and were a part of every single day of Lexi's life. Lexi is also survived by her Aunt Rebecca (Auntie) and Uncle Greg Costa, and her Uncle Matthew Williams and Aunt Megan Williams. She will be forever missed by her cousins Josephine and Jack Williams and Nicholas and Matthew Costa. They all could not have loved each other more. From the day each of them were born, she cared for them and mothered them like they were her babies. Meghan Dovi (Christopher Hendriks) was a big sister to Lexi and she was so happy that Meghan was a part of her family. Also a constant presence in Lexi's life is dear Cousin Mark Reynolds. On her paternal side Lexi is survived by her grandmother Joan Porter, her Aunt Theresa (Aunt Teedie) and Uncle Chuck Tummino, Aunt Roxanne Carey, Aunt Julie Romero, and Cousins Casey Nelson, Justin Carey and Joey Tummino. She was predeceased by her grandfather Richard Porter. They called her Lexi-Lou. The loss of Lexi will be felt by so many, and the number of friends she had cannot be counted. Her soul will live on in the memories of her forever friends Hunter Moore, Josh Miller, Kennedy Cook, Kenzie Stark and Dylan Mcelhannon. And then there's Shelina, Shea, Audriana, and Grae. Her little friend Max was also very special to her. Lexi's Cortland High School Lacrosse teammates were more than just teammates, they were sisters and she loved them all. Her teachers and coaches know that Lexi was a great student and a hardworking athlete and that she appreciated the guidance and support she received at Cortland Junior Senior High School. Her dear friend Michael Conlon, who served as her confirmation sponsor just weeks ago, was a spiritual guide and her friend Andrea held out her hand and they were not alone as they ascended together. Lexi had plans for the future. She wanted to be a teacher and though she is not here in body, she is here in spirit and that dream will not go unfulfilled as her example in life will instruct us every day. She will teach us to be strong, she will teach us to forgive, and she will teach us to live each day. Even through our tears, she has already taught us that we can laugh. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 3-6pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc. of Cortland. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church of Cortland, Thursday at 11am. Contributions in Lexi's memory may be made to Puzzle Solvers Autism Awareness Group, 2151 Ames Road, Cortland, NY 13045. To offer online condolences, please visit www.wright-beard.com
