Obituary of Christopher Brad Sweeney
Please share a memory of Christopher to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Christopher Brad Sweeney, 55, passed away on February 8th, 2025, in Cortland, New York with
family by his bedside after a 5-month battle with cancer.
Son of Ronald and Suzanne Sweeney, he was born February 1st, in Hornell, New York. He
graduated from Fillmore Central School in 1988 and attended SUNY Cortland. While attending
college he started a part-time job for Petr-All Petroleum dba. Express Mart in 1990. He worked for
Express Mart for 28 years when the company was purchased by Speedway and later 7-Eleven. He
was blessed to truly find lifelong friends at all three companies.
He is survived by his beautiful wife, soulmate and mother of his children, Julie Sweeney of McGraw,
NY, their children: Christopher Sweeney and fiancé Hannah Casey of Deerfield, NY, Brooke (Austin)
Glazier of Homer NY, and Madison Sweeney of McGraw NY. One grandson: Carter Glazier who he
adored dearly. Father and mother: Ronald and Suzanne Sweeney. Brothers: Todd Sweeney of
Grand Island, NY, Mark (Samantha) Sweeney of Washington DC, and Sister Lindsey Hamilton of
Massachusetts as well as many, amazing cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and
grandnephews.
Christopher was a deeply beloved father, husband, son, uncle, cousin, brother, papa and friend.
While we lost our most beloved dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a
rock to many, and a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others. There was so much more
to him than just dad, though to us that was his greatest role - he was also a friend, a coworker and
colleague, a stand-in paternal figure to the fatherless, and a role model to all.
Christopher dedicated his life to family, friends, work, and Homer Little League where he was
president for over 20 years. The ball field quickly became his second home and being known as
"coach" became one of his favorite titles.
Christopher was a proud Buffalo Bills fan, who enjoyed camping and gardening. One of his favorite
places in the world were the beaches on Cape Cod.
We invite you all to share pictures or memories. It was his wish that we laugh, reminisce, and smile
together during this time as a Griswold family would.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday at the funeral home. Graveside services will take place in the spring in McGraw Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers for the continued support of Homer Little League we have included a link where
donations can be sent in remembrance of Christopher Brad Sweeney.
