
Obituary of Lauren Cooper

Lauren "Lum" Cooper, born on July 9, 1939, passed away on February 13, 2025, at the New York State Veterans Home at Oxford.
Lum is survived by his beloved wife, Heidi Cooper; his daughters, Tara Wilhoit (Jeff Bushnell) and Erin Cooper (Bill Vondenkamp); and his son, Scott Cooper (Marlene Cooper). He was also a cherished grandfather to Sierra Wilhoit, Zackery Wilhoit, Scott Passalugo, and Paige Vondenkamp. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Harry Cooper; his mother, Grace "Bernice" Cooper; his siblings, Donald Cooper and Dawn Austin; and his great nephew "Danny" Austin.
Lum graduated from Homer High School before proudly serving in the United States Army. Following his service, he pursued higher education at Syracuse University, where he earned a degree in History. A dedicated alumnus, he remained an avid supporter of Syracuse's football and basketball teams, throughout his life. He loved baseball, basketball, and golf. In fact, he carded his career hole in one, on his birthday.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours at Wright Beard Funeral Home on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 11 am to 1 pm. A service will follow at 1 pm with a celebration of life at The Community Restaurant at 2 pm. All are invited.
The family thanks the New York State Veterans Home at Oxford for their love, care, and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New York State Veterans' Home in Oxford: 4207 State Hwy 220, Oxford NY 13830, Attention Music Therapy Program.
