Obituary of Jane Barry Morenus

Jane Barry Morenus of Homer peacefully passed away on February 16, 2025, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. Her family offers special thanks to the staff at the Misty Glen Nursing Center; their kindness and compassion is much appreciated. She is survived by George Mason Morenus, her husband of sixty years; her daughter Betsy Gray (Rob); her son Luke Morenus (Caroyln); her grandchildren Ben & Jacob Morenus, Abby Gray, and Molly Hall (Mike); her great-grandchildren Madelyn & Mason Hall; her nephew Jeff Barry (Anita); her nieces Sue Montgomery (Glen) & Peggy Thurber (Frank); and countless other cousins and family members. Born February 8, 1942, Jane was a devoted wife, loving mother, fierce friend, and beloved teacher. She taught in the Tully and Homer School Districts for many decades, primarily in the second, fourth, and fifth grades. An avid supporter of her students, Jane founded the Homer Intermediate Student Council, serving as its first faculty advisor. She refused to give up on any student and would not allow any student to give up on themselves. At Jane's request, there will be no formal services.
