Obituary of Nicholas A. Renzi

Nicholas A. Renzi passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025. Nick was born in the Bronx New York on October 4, 1931, the son of Albert and Mary Renzi. He received his education through the New York school system completing his college education with a full academic scholarship at the College of the City of New York where he received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1952. He received his Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University in 1955. During his professional career Nick was a licensed Professional Engineer in New York and Connecticut. Nick started his professional career in the development of jet engines for aircraft applications working at Curtiss-Wright and then at the Lycoming Division of Avco Corporation where he was Chief of gas turbine accessories development. After seventeen years in the engine development field, he joined Pall Corporation as a project manager for their inertial particle separator filtration systems. In 1972 he transferred to Pall Trinity Micro in Cortland as Chief Engineer. After holding positions as Vice President of Engineering and Manufacturing he was promoted to President of Pall Trinity Micro and held the position of Senior Vice President of Pall Corporation. His responsibilities included the Cortland plant and the manufacturing and engineering operation in Puerto Rico. Nick was with Pall Corporation for twenty-five years with the last fourteen as President of PTM. Retiring in 1994, Nick taught business management at TC3. Then he and his wife, Agnes, spent a year fulfilling a lifelong goal of designing and building their dream house, personally managing all the construction details. An avid do-it-yourselfer, Nick enjoyed developing his house to high standards and enjoying the rewards of personal accomplishment. As a member of the Cortland community that he called home, Nick was a member of the Cortland Memorial Foundation Board and was Chair of the Investment Committee in support of Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. He was also a Member of the TC3 Foundation Board and Chair of its Investment Committee. He served on the Baden Powell Council of the Boy Scouts. Nick was also a member of the Cortlandville Planning Board for many years and was instrumental in upgrading the Town Code in the areas of zoning, stormwater management and the development of design standards for districts within the Town of Cortlandville. In 2024, Nick was inducted into the Town of Cortlandville's Hall of Fame for his philanthropy and community service. One of Nick's greatest achievements was the leadership gift he gave to Cortland Memorial Foundation to bring the Renzi Cancer Center to fruition, which opened on his 90th birthday in 2021. In December of 2024, the Guthrie Cortland Renzi Health Campus opened its doors because of Nick's continued generous support of quality healthcare initiatives for the Cortland Community. Nick is survived by his sons Nick Jr. (Cathy) of Rochester and Christopher of Tampa; grandsons Nick III and Brett and granddaughter Maren (Anthony); as well as great grandson Austin and great granddaughter Lula. A Mass at St. Mary's Church will be held on Friday March 7, 2025 at 11 am. Entombment will be held privately. Contributions in Nick's name may be made to Pathfinder Village Edmeston, New York, an organization devoted to the development of children with Down syndrome, or to the Cortland Memorial Foundation in support of The Renzi Cancer Center at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.
