Obituary of Anthony Vincent Catalano
Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anthony Vincent (Tony) Catalano, 77, of Cortland, New York entered into God's blissful embrace, surrounded by his family, on February 27, 2025.
Anthony was born in Cortland, New York to James V. and Linda A. (Dintino) Catalano on September 1, 1947. He graduated from Cortland Senior High School in 1965. He went on to earn his Associates in Applied Science in Accounting from Tompkins Cortland Community College in 1995. He remained a life-long learner and voracious reader, dedicating an entire room of his house as a library, which could not contain all of his books and publications. Anthony also enjoyed his extensive collections of movies, music, coins and stamps.
He dedicated his life to serving his family, nation, and God. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, defending our nation from 1967-1971. He worked for the United States Postal Service for decades prior to his retirement in 2013. He was a life- long member of and communicant at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister. He made sure to help his community through a number of organizations, including as a founding member of the Distinguished Alumni Wall of Fame at Cortland High School Committee.
Anthony's selflessness was most apparent in his deep devotion to his beloved family. On December 23, 1981, Anthony met the love of his life, Janice R. Meyer. They were married the following year on October 23, 1982. They spent the next 27 years of their lives together, raising their children, and making sure each holiday, vacation, sporting event and extra-curricular activity was always memorable, filled with love and support. He is survived by his children Karen, Michael (Olivia), and Daniel (Taylor) Catalano, siblings, including sisters Jane Catalano, Mary Anna Catalano and Philomena (Thomas) Brady, brother F. Michael (Marybeth) Catalano, brother-in-law Thomas Dovi and his Aunt Catherine Fredenburg. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews and had many cousins.
His most cherished moments in recent times were doating on his "little sweethearts" as his world revolved around them. He is survived by his seven adoring grandchildren, Jenna, Sophia, Theodore, Luca, Emilia, Vincenzo, and Jackson Catalano. His favorite "job" was running his "Grampy Daycare" over the past eight years.
In addition to his parents, Anthony is preceded in death by his wife, Janice (Meyer) Catalano, and sister, Diana (Catalano) Dovi.
