John Carbona, 94, of Oswego, NY passed away on Thursday February 27, 2025. He was born on September 14, 1930, the son of the late Anthony and Carmella Carbona.
John was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Formerly of Cortland, John proudly served in the Unites States Army from 1951-1953. He went on to work for Smith Corona for 42 years. John also was employed as a part-time custodian at the Recreation Alley Bowling Lanes in Cortland for many years. In his free time, John was an avid bowler and he enjoyed bike riding and watching fast pitch softball games. His favorite team was the Red Dragons. Additionally, he was an active member of many local Veteran's organizations, serving as Chaplain for several years, and was Commander of the Cortland VFW Post from 1990-1991.
John is survived by his sons Richard Carbona, Anthony Carbona, Kelly Carbona, his daughter Carmella Carbona, his step-children Jeffery Elliott, Steven (Flo) Elliott Sr., his 2 Grand Children, 2 Great Grand Children, 6 Step Grand Children, 9 Step Great Grand Children, his brother Nick Carbona, and Sister-In-Law Phyllis Carbona.
John is predeceased by his loving wife Dawn Y. Carbona, his step-children Edward Elliott and Deborah Elliott, his brother Mike Carbona, his sister Norma(Robert) Anecelle, his half-sister, Pauline(Gino) Carach, and several nephew's, nieces, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday April 9, 2025 from 4-6pm at the St. Margaret's Church, 14 Copeland Ave., Homer, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday April 10, 2025 at 10am, at the St. Margaret's Church. A burial of ashes will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
