Robert W. Pickert, 81, of McGraw, passed away on March 24, 2025. He was born on November 14, 1943, to the late Robert and Rody Ryan Pickert.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated over 40 years of his career as a machinist at Brewer-Titchener, where he was known for his strong work ethic and skill.
Beyond his profession, Robert was an active and beloved member of his community. While his children were in school he was very involved in their sports. He was the summer softball league coach for McGraw and won championships with the McGraw girls. His love for sports and mentorship left a lasting impact on those he coached.
He was his children's number one coach and biggest supporter. He received his school bus driver’s license to drive the bus for his daughters' sports events.
His brother Richard Pickert and he formed the Pickert Brother Rabbitry and showed Giant Checker rabbits all over the state. He was active in 4H with his children and helped them show animals at local and NYS Fair.
He and his family would often go to Sylvan Beach and camp with his siblings and their families. The family has lots of fond memories of these trips.
He was also an avid bowler and bowled in many leagues.
He and his wife of 56 years lived in McGraw their whole life. When they both retired they volunteered for the village in the Food Program in the summer and handed out lunches for the school age children.
Robert was predeceased by his loving wife, Paula Pickert. He is survived by his loving children: Tammy (Barbara Sanders) Pickert, Eddie (Cheryl) Pickert, Margie (Rich) Whittington, Becky (Lewis) Vanwagenen. He was a cherished grandfather to several grandchildren, including Serena Snavely and Antonio Pickert, and was blessed with several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Richard (Laura) Pickert, Judy Rainbow, Kathy (Clarence) Woodard, and Debbie (John) Head, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. is assisting the family with arrangements.
