Obituary of Beverly W. Jones

Please share a memory of Beverly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beverly Whiteford Jones, beloved daughter of Lloyd and Dora Whiteford, passed away on April 4, 2025. She was born on February 4, 1949, in Cortland, NY. She grew up in Homer, NY, and graduated from Homer High School in the class of 1967. Following her high school graduation, Bev attended the Hartford Airline Personnel School in Hartford, Connecticut. Despite her aspirations, the airline industry was not hiring at the time, leading her back to Cortland, where she began her career in the graduate studies office at SUNY Cortland. In April 1972, Bev married the love of her life, David Jones. The couple initially settled in Liverpool, NY, where she worked for AMICA Insurance. Two years later, they returned to Cortland, where Dave eventually purchased Tanner-Ibbotson, and together they built a successful business, with Bev playing a crucial role in its operations, including conducting home inspections. In 2012, after many years of dedication, they sold the business and enjoyed a well-deserved retirement. Bev was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and found joy and creativity in the Groton Watercolor Class. She cherished spending time at her cottage on Skaneateles Lake, taking vacations with her family, and creating lasting memories with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Nana." Bev also enjoyed spending her winters at their condo in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Her artistic spirit and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Dora Whiteford, and her sister, Sandy Caron. She is survived by her husband, David Jones, and her brother, Jerry Whiteford. She is also survived by her loving family, including her sons Jeffrey Jones and his wife Lori, along with their children Claire, Colin, and Whitney of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and Brian Jones and his wife Lauren, along with their children Everett and Lucas of Holly Springs, North Carolina. Bev's life was a testament to love, dedication, and her family. She will be remembered fondly by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 9th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Cortland, NY, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. A burial will take place immediately after the service at Glenwood Cemetery in Homer, NY. A celebration of life luncheon will follow at approximately 1:00 p.m. at The Cortland Country Club. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend all events to honor and celebrate Bev' s life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Alzheimer's research or a charity of your choice in Bev's memory. Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. is assisting the family with arrangements.
