Obituary: Carolyn M. Fitzgerald
Carolyn M. Fitzgerald, 80, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Bernard and Leona Koehl Bleskoski, Sr.
Carolyn was a proud graduate of Assumption Catholic Academy, Class of 1962. She went on to further her education at SUNY Geneseo, and later earned her Master's Degree from SUNY Cortland, preparing her for a meaningful career in education.
She dedicated much of her life to the service of others, retiring from the Syracuse City School District as a special education teacher. Her passion for education and helping those in need extended well beyond her career.
A devoted volunteer, Carolyn gave generously of her time and talents to several local organizations. She was a longtime supporter of Meals on Wheels, delivering meals and warm smiles to homebound seniors. She was also a dedicated volunteer at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Food Pantry, working tirelessly to provide for those in need. In addition, Carolyn volunteered at Canton Woods Senior Center in Baldwinsville offering transportation to individuals needing rides to doctor appointments—a simple yet deeply appreciated gesture that reflected her caring spirit. She was also an active member of various religious organizations, including her parish at Christ The King Church, where she helped with cleaning the church.
In recognition of her commitment to her faith and community, Carolyn was honored with The Immaculate Medallion, from The Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception a distinction that reflected her deep devotion and selfless service to God.
Carolyn had a deep love for gardening and found joy in sharing the fruits of her labor with others. Her garden, filled with vibrant flowers and bountiful harvests, was a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She also enjoyed doing puzzles and was a dedicated fan of the Game Show Network, especially the show 25 Words or Less, which brought her much laughter and entertainment.
Her quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering dedication to others will be deeply missed.
Carolyn was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, but enjoyed watching any football game.
Carolyn was predeceased by her loving husband of 24 years, Terry Fitzgerald in 2010, her brother Bernard Bleskoski, and her niece, Sara Baldwin.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Ruth Ann Whittin, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom will miss her love, guidance, and selfless spirit.
In keeping with Carolyn's wishes, she donated her body to the SUNY Anatomical Program, continuing her legacy of service even after her passing.
Calling hours will be 10 – 11 AM on Tuesday, May 13 at Christ The King Church, 21 Cherry Tree Cir, Liverpool, NY 13090. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11 AM.
