Obituary of Christopher A. Gohl

On Good Friday, April 18, 2025, Christopher Allen Gohl, 38, passed away at UHC Memorial Hospital. Born in Cortland County, NY, Chris had a big heart, an unforgettable smile, and a love for fishing, music, and being with friends and family. He was happiest in the little moments—laughing, listening to his favorite songs, and feeling the sun on his face by the water. He attended school in Cortland, NY through 11th grade and graduated in Holbrook, AZ in 2006. He worked at Sunoco in Cortland NY, before a tragic accident on Black Friday, November 24, 2006, changed his life forever. Chris suffered a traumatic brain injury and spent the next 18 years in various care facilities. In 2014, he entered the OPWDD program and later became a resident at a Broome County IRA, where he was surrounded by kindness and so much care. Chris lived nearly twice as long as expected. He was a quiet warrior—strong, resilient, and full of heart. He is survived by his mother Tammy Foster (Jeff), father Brian Gohl (Daisy); his siblings Angela Davis (James), Melissa Deland (Nate), and Jacob Foster (Jess); Michael Gohl, Nicole Harageones (John), grandmothers Judie Doran (Wayne) and Patricia Foster; grandfather Ransom Brooks (Beverley); two nieces, two nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Chris faced more than most ever will, but he never gave up. He will be remembered for his strength, his spirit, and the love he gave freely. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday April 23, from 1pm to 2:45pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., with a service beginning at 3pm.
