Melonie Rood, 66, of Cortland, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at the Cortland Park Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on March 17, 1959 in Cortland, the beloved daughter of Richard H. Rood and Rachel “McKee” Rood. In her younger years, Melonie looked forward to traveling with her family and going camping. During the spring and summer months, Melonie enjoyed going on walks and picking the lovely flowers she would come across. She was an excellent cook and truly loved her pets, Daisey and P.J. Melonie is survived by her loving mother, Rachel Rood; her aunts and uncles, Roger (Rita) McKee, Mary Shore, and Anita (Bill) Pryor; she is also survived by her cousins, Colby Shore, Laurie Guay, Jennifer Madachy, Matthew Pryor, Kelley Knott, Colleen Morse, Jonathan McKee, Michael McKee, Valerie Hotaling, and Roseanne Dickson. She is predeceased by her father Richard H. Rood in 2003 her uncle Allen McKee in 2023. Friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday May 1, 2025 at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. from 11am to 12pm with a funeral service to begin at 12pm. Burial will follow at the Taylor Cemetery. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider a donation to the JM Murray Center.
