In Loving Memory of Jeffrey Xavier Searles
August 30, 1954- May 7, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Xavier Searles, aged 70, on May 7, 2025. A graduate of Cortland High School, class of 1972, Jeff dedicated his life to caring for others as a devoted nurse, earning his LPN in 1994 and his RN in 2002. His compassion did not just extend to his profession; he touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jeff had a passion for life that was evident in everything he did. He found joy in fishing, teaching his children the art of casting a line and instilling in them an appreciation for the tranquility of nature and the joy of being present in peaceful moments by the water. His garden was not just a hobby; it was a sanctuary, where he nurtured both plants and memories alike. Cooking was another of his loves; he could always be found in the kitchen experimenting with recipes, surrounded by laughter and the warmth of family.
A lover of music, you could often catch him humming a tune or singing along to classics. He cherished the moments spent dancing with his children to his favorite songs by Aerosmith, Bob Marley, AC/DC, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. In the quiet moments, he immersed himself in the worlds of science fiction novels, escaping into captivating stories rich with imagination. A true beach enthusiast, the sound of waves brought him peace, and he relished every moment spent by the ocean.
Jeff was predeceased by his beloved parents, Thomas H. and Antoinette T. (Mancini) Searles, who will welcome him with open arms in the next life. He is survived by his sister Palma (Peter) Madsen, his four treasured children, Jennifer (Ollie) Priester, Rebekah Searles, Joseph Searles, and Jacob Lajza. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren, Kaylei Searles, Gavin Beattie, and Nova Zapata, as well as his great-grandchildren, Dahlia, Daxon, Hazel, and Chloe, who brought him immense pride and joy.
As we say goodbye, we hold onto the beautiful memories shared with him-the laughter, the love, and the lessons he imparted. His spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
Services will be held at a later date and time, and we invite all who knew and loved him to celebrate his remarkable life.
