
Obituary of Dominick Contento

Mr. Dominick "Ming" Contento, 95, passed away June 10, 2025 with those he loved most.
Born in Cortland on August 2, 1929, Dominick the son of Gaetano and Pasqua (Panaro) Contento. He was raised along with his siblings on the Contento Farm on Cold Brook Road (Scott). Growing up he helped out on the family farm, and assisted many other local farms that were affected by the war. In his teenage years, Dominick served his country in the Army during the Korean War.
On May 2, 1956 he married Mary M. Greco with whom he shared 66 years in a loving union. Dom and Mary were inseparable until Mary's passing in 2022.
During his early work years, Dominick worked for many local businesses, including Smith Corona, Durkee's Bakery, and Brewers before joining the Contento family business ("The Yard"). He continued working at Contento's for over 70 years. Work was his life and passion. When he wasn't working, he was puttering around somewhere else. He never sat still. He loved camping with his family and dear friends at Old Forge. His fondest memories included sitting around the campfire on Cold Brook with family and longtime friends. Dom was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He never missed a single Family Reunion or family event. He enjoyed many picnics and would attend every local fire works show. Dom spoke fondly of the Pine Street Gang, and those from the South End, Especially in his later years.
Dominick is survived by his sister Anna Hobart, sons and Daughters-in-law, Christopher and Gina Contento of Utica, and Timothy and Angela Contento of Homer, grandchildren Christina Contento-Goo (Amdrew) of Albany, Nicholas Contento of Rochester, and Giovanna Contento of Homer, sister and brother-in-law Richard and Anne Randall; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear family and friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife; parents, brothers Victor, Leonard, John, Gerald Sr., Frank, and his sister Theresa Doyle.
The family will commemorate Dominick's life. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours Tuesday June 17, from11:30 am-1:15 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045 with a Catholic service to begin at 1:30 pm at the funeral home.
