Obituary of Sullivan Robert Hartnett
Please share a memory of Sullivan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sullivan "Sully" Hartnett, 30, passed away June 14, 2025 in Homer, NY. Born in Cortland, NY on December 1, 1994, Sullivan is the son of DJ and Nettie (Dafoe) Hartnett. He was raised along with his siblings, Tristan and Kane Hartnett in Truxton, NY.
Sully will be remembered for his huge heart, generosity, love for his family, and dedication to his career as a lineman. Sully grew up alongside his brothers hunting (mostly liked to pull the trigger), fishing, riding bikes and ATVs around Truxton, and playing sports. Sully cut his teeth at 4 years old working construction and digging with his father. He pursed this path into adulthood before moving into a career as a lineman for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 1249, a career he shares with his brother Kane. Sully excelled in his career and travelled the country responding to natural disasters and restoring electricity to affected communities. During his career he mentored many new linemen out of the kindness of his heart and passion for the profession. He was well-liked at work and people were drawn to his focus and excellence. Sully enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with friends, and each and every friend will be able to share a happy memory and a pretty good story.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Frances "Franny" (Murray) and Robert Dafoe and Donel and Elizabeth "Dickie" (Smith) Hartnett, and cousins Elliot Dafoe and Blaise Dafoe. Sully is survived by his parents Nettie (Dafoe) Hartnett and DJ Hartnett, brothers and sisters in law Tristan Hartnett and Angela Contento, Kane and Haleigh (Zeches) Hartnett, their children Gianna and Luciano Hartnett, and Myla and Allie Hartnett, as well as numerous close, loving cousins, friends, coworkers, and strangers whose lives he's touched, protected, and cared for.
Our loss is felt deeply and is widespread. Sully was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and friend. He gave without expectation, loved without limits, and lived his life fearlessly. If you were lucky enough to hear him say he loves you, you knew he meant it. Thankfully, he shared his bright light with so many of us, and he will be deeply missed.
