Obituary of Nelson E. Babcock

Nelson E. Babcock, 89 of Summit Street., Cortland, N.Y. died July 11, 2025 at home. He was born Sept. 26, 1935 in Cortland, the son of Hubert and Arlene Young Babcock and had been a lifelong area resident. Nelson was a 1953 graduate of Cortland High School. Prior to his retirement he worked for Smith Corona for many years. He is survived by his daughters Deborah (Richard) Barth of Roselle, IL; Susan (Brian) Hatch of Taylorville, IL; and son, Robert Babcock of Cortland; 4 Grandchildren, and 2 Great- Grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Dr. Stuart Babcock. After retirement Nelson volunteered for the National Fish and Wildlife Association, National Park Service, Virgil Fire Department, Virgil Zoning Board and the Disabled American Veterans. In his spare time, he could be found sitting by the lakeshore, snowmobiling, watching NASCAR, and tinkering in his workshop. He assisted in building two of his houses and helped his daughter and son-in-law build their home. He enjoyed traveling and never missed a Wings of Eagles Air show or Wheel Horse Show. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc.
