Laurie Jean Wimer, 72, of Richmond, Texas, passed away on July 27, 2025, at the Cayuga Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ithaca, New York, with her family by her side.
Born March 29, 1953, Laurie was the daughter of the late William and Lois J. (Chambers) Wimer. Born and raised in Cortland, she was a graduate of Cortland High School, and after attending college, became a Registered Nurse. Laurie spent much of her life living and working in Texas, and for more than two decades, worked as a nurse in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston until her retirement.
Laurie was an exceedingly compassionate person who spent her time taking care of others without expecting anything in return. For those that knew her, she is remembered for her love of cats and her special dedication to their rescue. Laurie is also remembered for her unending loyalty to and support of her family, as a daughter, sister, and aunt.
Laurie is survived by her loving family, her siblings, William (Sue) Wimer, David Wimer, Richard Wimer, and Lynn (Thomas) Brown; nieces and nephews, Michelle (Fregoe) George, P.J. Fregoe, Karin (Updyke) Carrozzi, Keith Updyke, Richard Wimer, II, Andrea (Brown) Sears, Nicholas Brown, William Brown, and Gregory Brown. In addition to her parents, Laurie is predeceased by her sister, Kay.
A funeral service in the Catholic faith will be held on Monday, August 4, at 10 a.m., at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Avenue, Cortland, New York, with burial immediately following at St. Mary's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
