Obituary of Norma Jean Smith

Norma Jean (Lang) Smith, 89, of Groton, NY passed away on Monday August 18, 2025. She was born on January 13, 1936, the daughter of the late Walter and Thelma Lang. Norma was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. Norma was a dedicated member, treasurer, piano player, and Sunday school teacher at the Cortland Church of Christ in Christian Union. She and Nial served in the Gideons for many years. Norma took pride in her time spent working for the Thrifty Shopper Rescue Mission Thrift Store. She kept books of her family's dairy farm, which she was very proud of. Norma enjoyed picking berries, baking pies, canning garden goodies, and couponing. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Norma is survived by her sons Kevin (Kimberly) Smith and Ronald (Kelly) Smith, her grandchildren Gary (Holly) Smith, Jonathan (Michelle) Smith, Zachary (Kendra) Smith, Kelly Chrysler, Nicole Smith, Binny Smith, Carmen (Mick) Sampson, Landri Smith, and Tucker Smith, her great grandchildren Paxton Smith, Rhett Smith, Cade Smith, Isaac Chrysler, Emily Chrysler, Levi Chrysler, Josh Chrysler, Ally Hathaway, Davena Hathaway, Elena Sampson, Navaeh Sampson, and Amar'e Smith, and her siblings Barbara Harvey, Bob (Rosa) Lang, Larry Lang, Mary (Tom) Eisele, Kenneth (Mitzi) Lang, Ruthie (Len) Cesene, and Karen Lang. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Nial S. Smith, her son Gary D. Smith Sr., and her siblings Dwayne Lang and Emmett Lang.
