Obituary of Frederick W. Underwood

Frederick W. Underwood (Fred) passed away on August 24, 2025. Born in Cortland, NY, on November 30, 1946, Fred was the son of William G. Underwood and Alice Garren Underwood. Fred worked at Smith Corona, then served in the U. S. Army, then returned Smith Corona. Fred was an avid volunteer in the community for more than 50 years. He had a lasting impact on those around him. Fred was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Bills. He found joy in walking, biking, and helping others. Fred is survived by his wife, Bonita, to whom he was married 52 years; his daughter, Sherry (Keith) Brickner; his sons, Chad Underwood, Judd (Amie) Underwood, and Todd (Amanda) Underwood; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his son, Frederick W. Underwood Jr., his brother, Keith, and his sister, Diana. Graveside service with military funeral honors will be held on Friday August 29, 2025 at 10am at the Cortland Rural Cemetery, 110 Tompkin St., Cortland, NY 13045.
