Myrtle Palmer (1928 –2025)

Myrtle Palmer, 97, of Cortland, NY, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Avenue, Cortland. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Thomas Heotzler, with burial immediately after at Atwater Cemetery in Homer.
Born in 1928 in Hamilton, Ohio, Myrtle lived a long and meaningful life marked by grace, strength, and devotion to her family, her work, and her faith. She raised two children and was an essential part of the lives of her four stepchildren. She was a devoted wife to Robert George (1947 to 1969), Marlin Hinkle (1974 to 1984), and Nelon Palmer (1984 to 2018).
Myrtle worked for decades as a housekeeping supervisor at the Crown Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Cortland, where her dedication and compassion left a lasting impression on both colleagues and residents alike. She took pride in her work and approached each day with kindness and care. Over the years, she attended Memorial Baptist Church in Cortland and the Church of Blodgett Mills, among others.
She was well known for her beautiful singing voice, which she shared faithfully as a member of her church. She is remembered by all for her sense of humor, her service to family and friends, her love for her dogs, her musical talent, and her hard work. She vacationed with her family in the Adirondacks, Finger Lakes, New Jersey, Orlando, and Chicago. She treasured her time with the family members from the Georges, Hinkles, Yutzlers, Palmers, and Worthingtons.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Eva Fenton; her stepsons, Larry Hinkle, Rick Palmer, and Rob Palmer; as well as many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her warmth and steady presence. She was predeceased by her son, Robert George, Jr., and her stepdaughter, Sherry Hinkle.
Myrtle's family would like to thank the caregivers, friends, and church community who supported her throughout her life. Her music, her laughter, and her love will be remembered always.
