Douglas Alton Park, 91, of Homer, passed away on September 16, 2025 at home.
He was born on November 1, 1933 in Virgil, NY to his parents the late Leigh Park and Ada "Stiles" Park. Doug was a proud graduate of Virgil High School and Morrisville College. During his years of education, he was a skilled basketball player and was the 1951recipient of the Post Standard/ WKRT MVP award for Basketball in Cortland County. After completing his college education, Doug was invited to try out for a spot on the Syracuse Nationals NBA Team. He was an avid Nascar and dirt track racing follower and was especially a fan of drivers Richie Evans #61 and Dale Planck #77. During the 1960's Doug play softball for Glenn's Fast Pitch TV Team. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Club and enjoyed traveling. Although he was a lifetime Cortland Resident, Doug looked forward to spending the winter months in Florida and Arizona. Doug retired at the age of 55 after a long and dedicated career with the NYSDOT.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Barbara "Rounds" Park; his sons Douglas L. (Yvonne) Park and Randall J. (Jane) Park; his grandchildren Erica Lawton, Amanda Park; and great grandchildren Greyson and Ava Golden.
In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by his daughter Deborah "Park" Lawton, and his brother Philip Park.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 1 to 2:30pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc with a funeral to begin at 2:30. Committal will take place at the Virgil Rural Cemetery.
