Obituary of Thomas S. Chavanic

Thomas (Tom) S. Chavanic, age 60, of Cortland, New York, passed away on Sunday, September 21 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, New York. Tom was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on September 27th, 1964 to George and Josephine (Dolly) Chavanic. He was a 1982 graduate of Hopewell High School in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He went on to earn an associate in applied science degree in occupational therapy assistant from the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He worked as an occupational therapy assistant at Crown Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Cortland. He enjoyed camping, riding his motorcycle, snowmobiling, and spending time at his family's camp in Tionesta, Pennsylvania. Tom found much peace from the simpler things in life like feeding the wildlife in his backyard, and was always a man with an open ear to listen to those around him. Tom is survived by his brother, Jim (Yvonne) Chavanic of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania; nephew James M. (Samantha) Chavanic of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania; niece Rachel Chavanic of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania; great nephews Cameron, Colton, and Carson Chavanic; and his longtime companion Wendy Dean of Seneca Falls, New York. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a son, Steven Crowe. A celebration of life will be held at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 1250 Fisher Ave. Cortland, New York on October 18 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends of Tom are encouraged to bring a dish to pass for the celebration.
