Obituary of Irene H. Nemecek

Irene H. Nemecek, 99 of Smithfield, North Carolina, formerly of Cortland, NY, Class of 1944, passed away on October 31, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 2, 1926 in Cortland, a daughter of the late Jesse and Florence Adams Henry. Irene was a Riveter at Smith- Corona for 43 years until her retirement. She was a previous member of Homer Ave United Methodist Church and Cortland Senior Citizens. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and socializing at gatherings with family and friends. She also enjoyed road trips, motorcycle rides in the country, garage or yard sales, playing Bingo and doing puzzles. Irene is survived by her son, Stephen (Cheryl) Nemecek, eight grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Irene is predeceased by her husband, Joseph, sons, Gary and David Nemecek, brothers Calvin, Nelson, Kenneth, and Gerald Henry, sisters, Katherine Fry, Agnes Morgan, Bernice Bushnell and Shirley Sherman, and longtime friend George Robert "Grampa Bob" Reh. Calling hours will be held on Saturday November 15, 2025 from 11am-1pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. A memorial service will follow at 1pm.
