Obituary of James H. Nickelsen

James Nickelsen, "Jimmy Nick", 83 of Homer, NY passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. Jim was born on August 11, 1942, in Whitewater, Minnesota. He graduated in 1960 from Elgin High School in Minnesota. He helped on the family farm before joining the Navy in 1962. He spent four years in the Navy as a Sonar Technician. His Navy training led to a 40+ year career as an Acoustical Engineer. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 465 in Homer. He was a past member of the Homer Elks and the Cortland Moose Club. Jim was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He enjoyed bowling and golfing until his health prevented him from doing so. He also loved playing Quick Draw! Jim is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara; children, James, Jammie (David) Hammon, Jennifer (David) George, and Sara Ladd; grandchildren, Matthew and Nicole; great grandchildren Bryson and Madison, and their mother Amber; many members of his Minnesota family and his special friend Sarah "H". Jim was predeceased by his parents Ernie and Mary, four brothers, five sisters, son, Donnie Ladd, and grandson, David George. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 11am-1pm at the Wright Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. A memorial service will follow at 1pm.
