Jerry R. Phalen 72, lifelong resident of Homer, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025. Jerry was known for his adventurous nature. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, outdoor life, bowling and a good game of cards. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing league softball. Jerry graduated from Homer Central High School in 1971. His career path led him to become a successful and highly respected road construction foreman for many years. Jerry will be remembered for his kind and generous nature. His words were always honest, often bracing, but never untrue. He kept it real, always.
He was a beloved son, brother and uncle and to his friends, he was Phal. Jerry was predeceased by his dear wife of 46 years, Karen Caldwell Phalen, his brother Michael J. Phalen and his father James L. Phalen. Jerry was also preceded in death by his constant companion and beloved dog Pistol.
Surviving are his mother, Doris E. Wingenbach Phalen, sister Carol Penano, brother Daniel Phalen and sister Susan (George) Lavey. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry will be dearly missed by his closest friends, Ray and Karen Coon. Jerry and Ray spent years fishing on all the area finger lakes, never leaving a perch behind.
There will be no services. A gathering of family and friends will be planned in the future.
