Obituary of Mary Ellen Ayer

Mary Ellen Ayer, 75, of Cortland, NY passed away on Thursday December 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 19, 1950, the daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia Rowley Heavey. Mary Ellen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Above all she loved helping raise her grandchildren and she enjoyed spending time with her family. Mary Ellen also enjoyed gardening. She had a passion for photography, especially for the butterflies which frequented her flowers. She also patiently waited each year for the return of the Hummingbirds to the feeders she would set out for them. She would tend to her flower gardens while her husband Clarke tended to the veggies. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Mary Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Clarke Ayer, her sons Kevin Ayer and Brian (Jason Seifer) Ayer, her grandchildren Dakota Ayer, Delaney Ayer, and her great grandchild Kali Jade Ayer. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings Bernard Heavey and Kathleen Cerrone. There are no services at this time. The Wright-Beard Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
