Obituary of Sheila J. Baker
Please share a memory of Sheila to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sheila J. Morse age 91 of Cortland NY passed away peacefully at her home on December 27, 2025. Sheila was born September 1, 1934 to Paul and Hazel (Best) Morse. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Sheila was the steady heartbeat of her family - a woman whose love was felt in small moments and lasting traditions.
Sheila found joy in the simple, beautiful things. She loved listening to country music and dancing whenever she had the chance, playing cards surrounded by laughter, tending to her flower garden with patience and care, and most of all, spending time with her family. Whether through a shared song, a hand of cards, or time spent together, Sheila made people feel seen, welcomed, and loved.
Sheila was predeceased by her parents, her four brothers William, Robert, Gerald and James, her beloved twin sister Shirley, and her cherished daughter Linda - the daughter she loved dancing with most, and whose absence she carried quietly in her heart ever since.
She leaves behind her family, who were the pride of her life. Her sons: Savalan (Lorraine) Harriger Jr., Steven (Tina) Harriger, and William (Mary Ellen) O'Rand. Her five grandchildren: Edward L. (Patty) Graves Jr., Rachel (Bo Hayes) Harriger, Jaimie (Matthew Perry) Harriger, Austin Harriger, and Taylor (Cody Benz) Netti. Her eight great-grandchildren: Rebecca L. (Carmen) Mauro, Zackary E. (Katie Williams) Graves, Rylee Ward, Layne Perry, Luke Perry, Norah Hayes, Ashtyn Hayes, and Lawson Perry; and one treasured great-great-grandchild, Peyton Louise Mauro, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit forward.
Sheila's life was not measured in years alone, but in the love she gave, the hands she held, and the memories she created. She will be deeply missed, and forever loved. Though she is gone from our sight, her presence will always live on in the music she loved, the flowers she grew, and the family she built with so much heart.
Calling hours will be held 9 AM to 11 AM at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM with Pastor Adam Gosser. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Cortland, whose compassion and care brought comfort to Sheila and her family during her final days.
