Obituary of Vaughn Nelson Sr.

Vaughn “Pooper” Nelson Sr., of Nedrow passed away February 9, 2026 in Cortland NY. He was born August 23, 1948, in Syracuse NY. “Pooper” lived his life in the Syracuse area growing up and working on the family farm. He served his country during the Vietnam War, where he was a M-14 Sharpshooter. He was honorably discharged with the Vietnam Service and Vietnam Campaign Medals. Upon his return he married and began his working career. He was employed at Nixon Gear and Packaging Corporation of America. His family will remember his dedication to family, friends, and his hard work ethic. While spending most of his time providing for his family, he was able to coach Little League Baseball for his son and his friends. He is survived by his son Vaughn Nelson Jr., his daughter Holly Nelson, grandson Nicholas “Nick” Nelson, granddaughter Torrence “Torrie” Morris, Great-Granddaughters Charlotte and Kinsley Nelson. Sisters: Edith (Edie) Muir, Dawn (Dawnie) Cook, Sharon (Sherry) Abend, Brothers: Keith (Kit) and Dale, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Minnie Hover Nelson. His wife Patricia J. Nelson (Crofoot), daughter Ellen J. Crofoot. Brothers: Arthur (Art), John (Dave), Phillip (Butch), Sanford (Joe) and Kenneth (Kenny). There are no services or calling hours at this time.
