Obituary of Janet A. Alexander
Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Ann Alexander, 90, of Cortland, New York, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 22, 2026. She was born on January 8, 1936, in Cortland, New York, to Harry A. Marks, Jr. and Alice Louise Peck.
Janet was a hardworking woman who dedicated many years to Smith Corona in both Groton and Cortland, New York, as well as Buckbee-Mears in Cortland. Beyond her work, she was a woman who found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She loved roller skating, bowling, and camping at Brennan Beach.
More than anything, Janet’s greatest joy was her family. When her first great-grandchild was born, she retired from full-time work so she could devote herself fully to being a grandmother. From that moment on, her home was filled with love, laughter, and the warmth of family. Janet cared for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her two beloved pups right up until the very end. They kept her young, and through her example, she taught the next generation the meaning of the phrase, “Kids first, always.”
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Morgan; her children, Sandy (Duane)Carmer, Linda Pooler, Steve E. Marks, Cindy (Carl)Sisson, Mike Marks, Cheryl Barber, Kathy Marks, and Steve (Holly)Marks , along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family members, and loved ones, will forever cherish her memory.
Janet was predeceased by her parents, her husband Tony Alexander, her sister Evelyn Horton, her brother David Marks, one grandson Christopher Marks, and two great-grandsons Collin Strauf and Jaydenn Marks.
Janet will be remembered for her strength, her devotion to family, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched and in the generations she helped raise.
