In Loving Memory of Donald Gorman
Donald Gorman, 86, of Syracuse, NY, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and an incredible impact on everyone he met. Born on March 8, 1940, Donald lived a life defined by fierce, unwavering love and a deep commitment to helping others.
Donald shared a profound closeness with his family and with the AA community, where he dedicated many of his later years. He served as a leader, sponsor, and steady presence, volunteering countless hours to support both new and returning members. He welcomed people without judgment, with full conviction, and always offered what he could - his time, his guidance, his humor, and his heart.
Known for his unique and witty sense of humor, Donald could make others laugh no matter what he was facing. He loved cooking meals "fit for an army," spending time with his family, and doting on his beloved cat, Zephie. His warmth and humor resonated from him even on the hardest days.
Donald grew up in Syracuse, graduated high school, and was recruited directly into the U.S. Navy. Over the years, he held a wide range of jobs - from painting transformers on tall telephone poles, to working as a factory shift supervisor, to auditing TV masks as a quality assurance worker. After retiring, he embraced time with his family, friends, and pets, enjoyed shopping, and found renewed grounding in his appreciation for God.
Donald is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marguerite Gorman; his son Christopher (Shari); his daughter Deborah; and his youngest daughter Wendy (Charles). He also leaves behind five grandchildren, more than ten great-grandchildren, and many in-laws who loved him deeply.
He will be remembered for his generosity, his humor, his devotion to others, and the countless lives he touched simply by being himself.
