Obituary of Marie A Spollen

Marie A. Spollen, passed away peacefully on 11/24/2025 at the age of 92. Born in Queens, NY, the only child of Charles and Laura Chandesh, Marie graduated from Cornell University in 1955 and soon after married Joseph C. Spollen. They settled in Huntington, NY Where they started their family of four boys. The family moved to Homer, NY in 1970. Joe began A new job at SUNY Cortland and Marie returned to Cornell, where she got a masters in Nutrition Sciences and began work at her alma mater as they raised their sons. Upon Joe's untimely Death in 1980, Marie furthered her career after attending Syracuse University as a Librarian at Tompkins Cortland Community College. After retiring, Marie enjoyed traveling with friends, Wintering in Florida, playing cards and was an avid movie watcher. She was active in her Retirement as a volunteer and member of many organizations including the Phillip Free Library In Homer, Cornell Club and Loaves and Fishes, to name a few. Known for her infectious laugh, Marie was an excellent cook and loved entertaining at her home, where all were welcome, she Will be dearly missed. Surviving are her four sons. Brian (Jeannette), Christopher, Kevin (Wendy), And Michael (Julie). Granddaughters Katherin (David) and Laura (David). Special thanks to her Lifelong friends, family, the staff at Portzline and Hospice who checked in, called and took care of Marie in her last years. A long-time congregant of St. Margaret's Church in Homer, a Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May8, 2026. A calling hour will be from 10:00 to 11:00 Am with a Memorial Mass to follow at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret's Church, Copeland Ave., Homer, NY. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to Phillips Free Library in Homer.
