Kathleen Frances Baney, 78, of Cortland, New York, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026 with family by her side. Born on February 14, 1948, in Waverly, New York, Kathleen lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and compassion for all humanity. Kathleen was the beloved mother of Lorie Lewis, Candy Beardsley, Elizabeth Cavanagh (Dan), and Robin Wheeler Jr. She was also a cherished grandmother to Patrick May, Angel May, Kathleen Griffith, Rikki Beardsley, Samantha Beardsley, Chase Hopkins, Donald Batsford Jr. (Kayla), Bridget Batsford, John Cavanagh (Samantha), Dana Cavanagh (Connor), Gregory Congdon, Jessica Congdon, Jacob Congdon, and Claire Congdon. Her legacy continues through her many great-grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews. Kathleen is also survived by her sister Veronica Crispbell and brother John Baney. She was predeceased by her son George Wheeler in 1982; daughter Christine Griffith in 2018; granddaughter Angel Gallian in 1992; grandson Jacob Beardsley in 2016; great-grandson Ian Batsford in 2022; her mother Barbara Heffron in 2006; and her sisters Bernadette, Jackie, and Nancy. Kathleen's life was defined by her unwavering spirituality and devotion to God. She found joy and solace in reading her Bible and practicing her Christian faith. Her greatest love was for her family—she treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Kathleen had a natural gift for crocheting and sewing, creating beautiful pieces that reflected the care she poured into everything she did. Her sense of humor brought light to those around her as she shared laughter while reminiscing about cherished memories. Known for her deep compassion for others and a heart full of kindness, Kathleen touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She cared deeply for her close friends and extended that same warmth to all she encountered. Her community will remember her as a woman of faith with an infectious spirit who brought joy wherever she went. Kathleen Frances Baney will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she graced. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.
