Obituary of David T. Edgbert
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Edgbert. David passed away with staff by his side on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Wilson Hospital in Binghamton, NY. He was predeceased by his parents Theodore and Mary Edgbert.
While David had lived at the Route 220 SOIRA, in Oxford, NY, for the past three years, he had a deep connection to Cortland, NY, where he had lived most of his life and where he leaves behind many beloved friends.
David will be remembered for his kindness, affection, and appreciation that he would show to others who loved and cared for him. He had nicknames for his favorite staff and would enjoy long talks about his best-loved places, people, music, and holidays. David was very patriotic and loved his country's flag. He was often seen carrying one or more of his treasured papers that listed holidays, seasons, and favored cities. David was a lover of music, especially rock & roll. He was a New York Yankees fan, loved cats and dogs, had a soft spot for children, loved his newspapers, and always looked forward to trips to McDonald's for a hamburger and Coca-Cola. While David loved to dress in Yankee blue, he would also often choose to wear special white hats and shirts. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good hug. While neither Oxford nor Norwich ever made it to the favored city status in his collection of maps, David developed many strong and special relationships and will be greatly missed by his Route 220 and Norwich Day Habilitation family and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 11am-1pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. A memorial service will follow at 1pm. Burial will follow in the Truxton Cemetery.
