Bonnie Coon, 84, of Cortland, NY, passed away July 8, 2026, at Guthrie Cortland after a brief illness.

 

Bonnie was born in Baldwinsville, NY, and later moved with her family to Homer, NY, where she graduated from Homer High School. Following high school, she studied to be a beautician in Syracuse, NY.

 

Bonnie worked at John's Beauty Salon in Homer, NY, and then at the Ritz Beauty Salon on Main Street in Cortland for 25 years. Following her career as a beautician, she worked at JoAnn Fabrics, retiring as the manager in 2014. Her store was ranked 3rd in the country in sales during her tenure as manager.

 

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Wayne Coon, her son Jim (Kati) Coon, her granddaughter Abbi Coon, her brother Donald Butler, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She also leaves behind nine cats: Lilly Poop, Porgy, Felix, Eagle Toes, Bamm Bamm, Bella, Ollie, Petey, and Jezzy. (Does anyone want a cat?)

 

Bonnie was predeceased by her parents Woodrow & Francis Butler, her siblings William (Marna) Butler and Beverly Congdon.

 

A calling hour will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 12, with a memorial service to begin at 7:00 pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland, NY, 13045. Online condolences may be left at www.wright-beard.com
