Obituary of John Bulina

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Bulina, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, educator, coach, and community leader, who passed away on August 1, 2026. He was born on April 15, 1949 in New York, NY. John is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his daughters Jennifer (Gregory) Kurilla, Jessica (Shawn) Iuliucci, and Julianna (Christopher) Merwin; his grandchildren Gregory, Nicholas, Michael, Lucas, Gabriella, Matthew, Sophia, and Lillyanna; his sisters Anna Marie(John) Benedetto and Irene (Andrew) Komar; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. For more than 39 years, John dedicated his life to teaching at both the high school and college levels. He was passionate about helping students learn and grow, and he took great pride in the relationships he built throughout his career. He also shared his love of sports as a high school and college soccer coach and as a ski instructor, encouraging others to challenge themselves and enjoy the outdoors. His commitment to education extended far beyond the classroom through many years of public service. He served on his local school board for 28 years, was a member of the state school board (serving as an executive for 12 years), and served as State School Board President for three years. He believed deeply in the value of education and worked tirelessly to make a positive difference for students and schools. Every morning before leaving for work, he would tell his girls: "Be good, get smart, and learn at least one new thing." John loved skiing, soccer, music, and spending time with family. Nothing brought him more joy than watching his children and grandchildren play sports and celebrating their accomplishments. He was proud of his family and deeply valued his heritage, passing those traditions and values on to future generations. He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the lasting positive impact he had on so many lives. His love for his family, his students, and his community will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A private cremation ceremony will be talking place this week. On Saturday there will be a memorial visitation from 9-11am followed by a funeral mass at 11am at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 191 Norman Avenue, Roebling, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Nicholas Byzantine Church.
