Obituary of Kathleen Bikos
Kathleen “Kay” Marie Bikos, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Kay was born in Sydney, New York, on October 11, 1935, to Frank and Evelyn (Bradford) Shofkom. She attended Morrisville School of Nursing, where she earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Kay loved being a nurse and caring for others. She spent many years caring for patients at Cortland Memorial Hospital. She also worked at Highgate Manor for 10 years and was later involved in providing private-duty nursing care. Her compassion and genuine love for helping others were evident in all that she did.
Above all, Kay cared for her family with a mother’s heart. She found great joy in having her family come to visit and in preparing something special for them. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting smells of muffins, cookies, applesauce, cakes, and pies. Whether there was a family gathering or simply a visit, Kay made sure her loved ones felt welcomed, cared for, and loved.
Kay had a special appreciation for the simple things that brought her happiness. She loved all things pink, her flowers, and watching hummingbirds and cardinals at the bird feeder. She loved babies, animals, and tiny knick knacks. She treasured phone calls from her family, and she delighted in giving and receiving gifts and cards.
Kay’s greatest treasures were the people she loved. She is survived by her children, Susan Post of Waxhaw, NC; Brian (Tina) Hollenbeck of Dryden, NY; Kelly (Bob) Hall of Kernersville, NC; and Jill (Bob) Corl of Homer, NY; as well as eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She will also be deeply missed by her best friend, Bonnie. They shared a love for nursing, sunshine and the beach as well as many adventures together over the past 49 years.
Kay was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Evelyn (Bradford) Shofkom, and her husband, John Bikos.
Kay leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories, and the many small acts of kindness that made her so special. Her family will always remember the warmth of her home and visits, the love in her cooking, her generous heart, and the joy she found in the people and simple things she cherished. She will be missed greatly and loved always.
There will be a private graveside service in Masonville, NY where she will be placed next to her parents.
