Velvet E. Cortright, 46, of Telephone Rd. Cincinnatus passed away unexpectedly at St. joseph's Hospital in Syracuse on Wednesday August 12. She was born March 5, 1963 in Cortland, the daughter of the late Stewart and Ellene Bevis Drake Sr.. She has been a lifelong resident of the area. Velvet graduated from Dryden High School in 1981. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, flowers, crafts, picnics, going to the lake, and the love of the outdoors. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed. Velvet is survived by her husband Tommy Cortright of Cincinnatus, sons joshua Drake of Ithaca, Brandon Drake in Cincinnatus, Thomas Cortright of Cincinnatus, daughter Emily Cortright of Cincinnatus, brothers Stewart Drake Jr. of CA, William (Dariele) Drake of McLean, sister Sherry (Charlie) Kastler of Homer, grandchildren Jacob and Catherine, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Tuesday Aug. 18 at Wright-Beard Funeral Home,9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland with Rev. William Haynes officiating. A calling hour will be held 1-2pm prior.
