Harold E 'Sonny' Grant 74, of Cortland, passed away on January 27, 2016 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born October 20, 1941 a son of the late Malcolm and Sarah Bradbury Grant in Truxton, NY. Sonny served with the U.S. Air Force for a few years until he was honorably discharged. He worked as an NYS Electrical Inspector for Atlantic Inland, Cortland; Grant Electric, proprietor and also Smith Corona as the head of maintenance. He was loved by all who knew him and was always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He is survived by his companion; Marlene Couglar, one daughter; Renee (Scott) Butler, step children; Jerry (Shelly) Hence, Johnny (Eileen Hinshaw) Storie, Karriane (Daniel) Goodwill, Karl (Jill) Couglar Jr., granddaughter; Emma Butler, step grandchildren; JJ, Brittaney, Liz, Danny, Mark, Aaron, Ashley, and Sydney, four step great grandchildren; one sister Patricia (Al) Brenchley, one brother; Donald (Sue Baker) Grant and several nieces and nephews. Sonny was predeceased by one brother; Charles Grant, three sisters; Sandra Hesterley, Sonya Nye, and Helen Grant. A pre-service gathering will be held Wednesday, February 3, from 4-6 PM at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland, NY with a memorial service immediately following. Memorial contributions can be made in Sonny's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, NY 13045.
