Janice Spencer Vestal, 69, of 307 W. South St., Groton NY, died June 11, 2010 peacefully at home with family by her side and with the help of Hospice of Tompkins County. Janice was a graduate of Dryden High School. She retired from Smith Corona with over 35 years of service. Jan then worked at Borg Warner until retiring from there in 2009. She also volunteered at the Cayuga Medical Center. In her spare time, Jan could be found shopping, bowling, playing cards, visiting the NYS Fair, or listening to music at a concert. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Robert Vestal Sr. of Groton, brother Ralph Bushnell of Freeville, daughters Vicki (Mike) Jordan of Freeville, Penny Tierney and Dawna Benford both of Cortland, sons Greg and Robert Vestal Jr. both of Groton, Keith (Jen) Vestal of Cortland, granddaughters Amanda, Machaela, Samantha, Brittany, Harleigh, and Rachel, grandsons Michael, Brian, Nick and Robert III, close friends Betty Coombs and Hilda Peterson of Groton, special aunt and uncle Billie and Wilbur Karcher of Deposit. Janice was predeceased by her parents George and Gladoloa Crump Bushnell and daughter Tammy Vestal. Calling hours will be Wednesday 11 am-12:45 pm with a funeral service to begin 1 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc. 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY 13045. Burial will follow at the Cortland Rural Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospicare and Palliative Care Svcs. Of Tompkins Co., 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca NY, 14850. We were in the left lane and the turn was coming up and Jan cranked that wheel and we sailed past 3 lanes into the turn off--we all laughed so much!
