Obituary of Alexander V. Nicholson

Alexander V. Brud Nicholson, 84 of Cedar St., Cortland passed away March 22, 2010 at the Cortland Care Center. Mr. Nicholson was born October 5, 1925 in Syracuse, NY son of Coleman L. and Margaret V. Nicholson. He spent his childhood in Skaneateles and graduated from Skaneateles High School in 1943. He then served as an electricians mate in the US Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. After the war he attended Clarkson University. Brud spent his entire professional career employed by boat manufacturers including Thompson and Grumman boats. He retired from Starcraft Boats in 1990 as Regional Sales Manager. Bruds true passion in life was competitive sailing. He competed in many different classes of sailboats, but primarily raced in the Star Class. He was an award winning skipper with always a helpful hand for other sailors. He belonged to Skaneateles Ithaca Red Jacket and Seneca Yacht Clubs over the years. Mr. Nicholson is survived by his wife of 56 years Virginia Gee Nicholson. Daughter and son-in-law Judy and Stephen Oosterling and grandson Alexander Oosterling. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Polly Nicholson of East Bloomfield and several nieces, nephews and their families. Mr. Nicholson was predeceased by his son Jon Walter Nicholson, grandson, joshua Stephen Oosterling, brothers Richard Dick Nicholson and Coleman Coley Nicholson. A calling hour will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday March 27 at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM with the Rev. John Gay officiating.
