Obituary of Beulah Vincent

Beulah Vincent, 101, formerly of the Brewster House, passed away July 19, 2009 at the Cortland Care Center. She was born June 17, 1908 in Groton NY, the daughter of the late Frank & Mary Goodman Blanchard.
Mrs. Vincent was a longtime teacher, teaching for 35 yrs and retiring from the Virgil School District in the early 1970's. She graduated from Cortland High School and attended training class in Moravia graduating in 1928. She then went onto Cortland Normal School graduating in 1936, while teaching in Groton.
Her memberships included the Retired Teacher's Association, South Cortland Grange, and Homer Senior Citizen's. In her spare time, Beulah enjoyed knitting, sewing, and tending to her yard.
She is survived by her daughter Phyllis (Richard) Osbeck of Cortland NY, brother Nelson (Florence) Blanchard of Cortland NY, grandchildren Jon Osbeck, Melissa (Glen) Gutierrez, Mary (David) Schissler, great grandchildren Adam, Julia, Daina, MacKenzie, Connor & Drew, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Vincent was predeceased by her husband Louie and eight siblings.
Calling hours will be Thursday 11 am-12 noon with a service to begin at 12 noon at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc. 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY. Burial will follow in the Cortland Rural Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cortland Care Center or the Elizabeth Brewster House.

Mrs. Vincent was my fifth grade teacher at VCS, I think 1961. She was a wonderful person and inspired me in my efforts to teach others. I remember her reading wonderful stories to us. I have passed that habit of reading out loud, and in my love of a great story. I keep her in my memories. I am truly sorry for this loss for the family. Louise Umland Moffett
